Here’s the low-down on the Clarity principals:

Rosalind Chua - Senior Writer

Roz is a history graduate from the University of Durham, UK, with over 10 years of publishing, ad agency and writing experience. She spent six years in London, working in the publishing and book packaging industry for some fantastic companies, including Transworld Publishing (part of the Random House Group).

In 2003, Roz returned to the ‘mother isle’ of Penang. After nine years spent in the gloom and damp, it was high time to get some colour back into her pallid cheeks. She spent another four years in publishing, as a feature writer and editor for a trade journal and glossy lifestyle mag. During this time, she was also senior copywriter and head of creative at a local ad agency.

Her agency stint gave her plenty of development and conceptual experience, in the areas of corporate communications and B2B marketing. She has worked with many Bursa Malaysia listed organisations from a diverse range of industries and services. She has also edited and authored four coffee-table books.

"Working in publishing was a brilliant experience. Publishing people, especially my bosses seemed so much larger-than-life, and had such an infectious joie de vivre – going to work was like going to a crazy, spontaneous house party. There was always so much creative energy pinging around. I still miss our hazy Friday lunches down at the pub!"

Roz is a complete book and footie devotee (yes, tis a very strange combination…), she misses Foyles very much.

 

Marie-Helene Tyack - Translation Manager

MH comes from a long family line of linguistically and musically-gifted individuals. She is of English and French extraction; raised in Switzerland and in the UK; she has also worked in Spain as well as in Malaysia for five years. She is perfectly fluent in English, French and Spanish (and has a pretty decent grasp of Italian).

She graduated from the University of Exeter, UK, with distinctions in French and Spanish and has over eight years teaching experience at some of the UK’s and Switzerland’s most prestigious schools – where she taught English, French, Spanish and Latin (no kidding!).

MH enjoyed a spell with the Alliance Francaise, teaching French and spreading French culture to the Gallically-challenged. She was the driving force behind the annual Fete de la Musique celebrations in Malaysia for four years. MH has also acted as a language consultant for an international operatic production of Bizet’s Carmen.

She is an experienced translator and has worked with numerous multinational organisations and NGOs on a variety of printed materials. She has also acted as a simultaneous interpreter and voice-over talent for tv ads and corporate multimedias.

When she’s not busy dreaming about cuckoo-clocks or strange cheeses, she can be found at the beach with her drooly Cocker Spaniel, Baci.
